Lucy Strange’s first novel, The Secret of Nightingale Wood, was published in 2016 and was the Waterstone’s Children’s Book of the Month. Described as ‘startlingly good’ by The Daily Telegraph, it was placed at Number 10 in their Top 50 Books of 2016. It has been translated into French, Dutch, German and Hungarian, with editions in Farsi and Mandarin on their way soon. The U.S. edition was launched in New York at the end of 2017 and was immediately chosen for Amazon’s list of the Best Children’s Books of the Year. The audiobook narrated by Lucy won the 2019 Audie Award in New York for the best narration by author.
Lucy’s second novel, Our Castle by the Sea, is set on the Kent coast during the Second World War. It was a project supported by Arts Council England due to its powerful, contemporary themes. When it was published by Chicken House in January 2019 it was selected as the inaugural Booksellers’ Association Children’s Book of the Month and The Times Book of the Week. It was later nominated for the Carnegie Prize and shortlisted for the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize 2020.
